THE RAVEN DRESS

This magnetic piece features the fluidity of Genevieve's draping. The hand dyed drape begins at the top shoulder and encircles the dress, flowing in one continuous motion to the bottom. The silk drape is dyed using a resist method called reverse shibori, reverse meaning colour is removed from the silk rather than added. The silk is wrapped over a form and string is then tightly wound around it, the bound silk is then added to a dye bath, which, when the dye process is completed, creates a striped effect. The base of this dress is made using a combination of pattern making and draping. Once the base dress is made the silk is then draped and sculpted to it. Lastly, the drape is sewn to the base by hand. The base dress is made from rayon and the drape is silk organza.
